Olive branch with green olives against a blurred background

What looks like an olive branch is the first oil of the harvest. Oli nou. From Catalan farms.

Tell me when sales open

The oli nou season has begun — Catalan for “new oil”. We are gathering this harvest’s oil from small farms and cooperatives in Catalonia and will open sales in the coming weeks. Leave your email and we’ll tell you first.

Only once a year

Oli nou is made from the first olives of the season, from October to January, while they are still green or just starting to turn.

It comes out a deep green, pleasantly bitter, with a peppery kick at the end. It is made for only a few weeks a year, and it shows its character best when freshly pressed.

You can see freshness on the label and taste it

Four things you can check yourself, wherever you buy your oil.

  • Harvest date

Look for the harvest date or season on the label (for example, 2026/27). A best-before date does not tell you when the olives were picked.

  • Dark glass or a tin

Light spoils oil. A dark bottle or a tin protects it; a clear bottle under shop lights does not.

  • Bitterness and pepper

A young oil from green olives is often bitter and catches a little in the throat. That is not a flaw: it is a sign the oil is fresh.

  • Away from light and heat

At home, keep it tightly closed in a cool cupboard, away from the hob. Once opened, it is best used within a few months.

From grove to table, without extra links in the chain

We are not selling anything yet. These are the rules we will use to choose each oil:

  • We will visit the farms and taste the oil before we sell it.
  • We will work with small farms and cooperatives.
  • Every bottle will name the farm and the harvest date.
  • A fair price for the people who make the oil and for you.
  • Sizes from 0.5 to 5 litres.

Five lands, five characters

We will look for oil in Catalonia’s five olive-growing areas with a protected designation of origin. We are not naming farms yet: we want to visit them first.

Questions

When do sales open?
We will open in the coming weeks. If you are on the waiting list, we will email you.
Where do you deliver?
We will announce it before we open. Write your city in the form: it helps us decide where to start.
Why not just buy it at the supermarket?
At the supermarket it is hard to know which farm an oil comes from and when the olives were picked. We will put both on every bottle, and work with small farms that rarely make it onto supermarket shelves.
